Recipes from Haven – Paloma Cocktail
Often referred to as the “first cousin to the Margarita”, the Paloma Cocktail is considered by many to be Mexico’s most authentic tequila drink. With its roots said to be in the aptly-named town of Tequila in Jalisco, Mexico; the Paloma Cocktail is a refreshing way to get those beach vibes any time of year.
1. Salt the rim of the glass by rubbing a grapefruit wedge around the edge and dipping it onto a small plate of salt.
2. Mix the tequila, grapefruit juice, sparkling water, lime juice, and agave nectar into the glass. Fill the remainder of the glass with ice. Adjust sweetness to taste. Garnish with grapefruit wedge.
Meet Haven’s Romance Manager - Aranza Kuri
Recently, Aranza Kuri our Romance Manager sat with us for a very informative interview on what makes Haven such a unique venue for a destination wedding. Here is some of what Aranza had to say.
Q: Where are you from?
A: I’m from Mexico City, Mexico – our beautiful capital.
Q: Where did you study and worked before Haven?
A: I studied International Relations at La Universidad del Valle de Mexico in Mexico City. I came to Cancun in 2006 -but in 2009 I left for Alejandria, Egypt to work and live abroad. In 2010 I returned to Cancun for good, working with some very familiar hotel chains, and was very excited to join Haven in 2019.
Q: When did you find your passion for events and weddings?
A: I began my career in food and beverage services then was given the opportunity to move into groups and conventions. That is when I discovered how much I loved to envision events, help conceptualize the atmosphere and then bring it to life. It was like magic. You have a vision in your brain, it comes to life and the day of the event you get to enjoy all your hard work as you see your guests enjoying the experience you've created. I loved it so much that in January 2015 I became an ordained minister and fell in love with being able to also facilitate weddings.
Q: What has been your favorite wedding of your career?
A: They all have their own special touch, but there was once a couple with a German groom and a Mexican bride who were so unique. They made their rings by hand together. He learned to dance for her on their wedding day. They were truly a beautiful couple. On another occasion I had a Greek groom and a Mexican bride and they had two separate weddings. One was her dream come true in a castle in Switzerland and another wedding was HIS dream wedding in the Mexican Caribbean. She came down the aisle on a horse along the beach complete with an incredible Mariachi ensemble.
Q: What has been your favorite wedding at Haven?
A: So many were so very special but In December of 2019, we had a very sweet young American couple whose wedding was vintage style head to toe. It looked like a real-life Pinterest board!
Q: What is your favorite wedding tradition or moment?
A: My favorite moments are the first dance of the wedding couple and the bride's dance with her Father. Those two are the sweetest moments in my opinion. It feels like time stops during these dances.
Q: What are some of the biggest trends affecting weddings today?
A: Small, intimate gatherings with immediate family tend to be more favored than ever. Vintage, rustic styles are becoming more and more popular and they allow you to blend different styles. For instance, you could have vintage tables with Tiffany chairs or the tables covered in cross back chairs. This style allows you to play with different types of flowers - like dry and fresh cut, mix and matched tables and chairs, and high-end touches with rustic finishes.
Q: What are some of your favorite wedding songs?
A: This changes all the time but for the ceremony, I love A Thousand Years by Christina Perri. For the first dance, I love Perfect by Ed Sheeran.
Q: How would you describe your work style? What do your clients say about working with you?
A: People say my style is very friendly, warm and approachable. I aim to instantly create a safe environment, because the one thing that makes for a great wedding is feeling like you can be absolutely honest with your wedding planner about every desire, detail and worry. I always try go above and beyond to make my client's dreams come.
